Gary L. Miller, Sheriff

"To keep and preserve the peace of the county"

The office of the sheriff has a history that spans more than 1,300 years, starting in England sometime before the year 700 A.D. Since our system of government is based in large part on English law, the concept of the sheriff was brought to this country by the early colonists. In Minnesota, each county has a sheriff who is elected to office by citizens of that county to a four year term. The Sheriff is the Chief Law Enforcement Officer within the county.

The Wright County Sheriff's Office is the sixth largest sheriff's office in Minnesota. We provide law enforcement services to the unincorporated areas of the county and contract police services to 13 of the 16 cities in the county. There are eleven divisions within the sheriff's office: Administration, Bailiff, Civil Process, Communications, Community Services, Corrections, Criminal Investigation, Narcotics, Recreational Enforcement, Warrants/Transports, and Patrol.

Current Sheriff Gary Miller began his service to Wright County as a patrol deputy with the Wright County Sheriff's Office in July of 1975. Besides working as a patrol deputy he also worked in the Warrant/Transport Division until he was promoted to Patrol Lieutenant in 1990. In 1993 he was promoted to Captain and in May of 2000 was appointed sheriff to fill the vacancy created by Sheriff Don Hozempa's retirement. Sheriff Miller was born and raised in the Annandale area and lives in Corinna Township with his wife Kim and their two daughters, Rachael and Kelly.

Wright County's location just west of the Twin City metropolitan area has contributed to its rapid growth in recent years. The Sheriff's office has continued to meet the challenge by providing quality law enforcement services to the citizens of the county.
